2023 BMW M2 Redesigned for the Future
BMW released images and information on the completely redesigned 2023 BMW M2 and we could not be more excited! Overall the vehicle has been upgraded in every quantifiable measure and is visually stunning. With a wider track width and increased power, drivers can expect improved handling and acceleration from the M line of vehicles smallest package. Not only the appearance is changed but also the experience for the driver. M2s interior has been updated in a dramatic fashion similarly to the exterior. Visually Stunning
The 2023 M2 is again based on the 2 series similarly to years past. However M2 has an increased footprint from the outgoing model. The overall wheelbase is is 2.1 inches longer and the body of the car is 4.1 inches longer than the most recent model. The track width has also been increased by 1.5 inches on the front wheels and .2 inches in the rear. The increased wheel base is sure to offer a more stable chassis and increased handling. These dimensions are the same as the current M3 and M4. 2023 M2 is also .3 inches lower, offering an even lower center of gravity. Other than increased road contact, M2 is sporting wider front and rear fenders, and other exaggerated features when compared earlier M2s. The new vehicle also features tail lights similar to the 2 series and unique headlights featuring an LED element and a very modern look. M2 will utilize a staggered wheel setup with a 19 inch wheel up front and a 20 inch wheel in the rear. It will be offered with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires to keep the car planted. M2 will be available in a variety of colors we know and love as well as an exclusive color. Available colors will be Black Sapphire Metallic, Toronto Red Metallic, Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey Metallic and a new and exclusive color, Zandvoort Blue.
An Increase in Power and Handling
2023 M2 will be sharing many parts and features of the current M3 and M4. M2 carries a version of the S58 engine making 453 HP and 406 pound-feet of torque. This horsepower figure is 48 more than the last generation M2 Competition. M2 will feature a traction control system with 10 settings, that will allow the driver to decide how much computerized intervention the car will take in adverse driving situations. The 2023 model will continue to be available with a six-speed manual transmission as well as an eight speed automatic transmission. BMW claims a 3.9 second 0-60 with the auto transmission and 4.1 second 0-60 with the manual. Top speed limited to 155 and a 177 limit with the M Driver’s package. The new chassis is more rigid than the outgoing model and will have an electrified braking system with adjustable pedal feel. Braking force is achieved through 15 inch rotors, 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear calipers.
Convenience and Control
M2 also has a completely redesigned interior centered around the driver. New power adjusting seats differ from the previous model, with added bolstering, illuminated logos in the headrests, power adjustment and are heated. The M2 can also be optioned with the factory Carbon Fibre Package, that include the lightweight M Carbon front seats, that save around 24 pounds. The interior also sports a one piece display that stretches from the cluster to the center console. The gauge cluster utilizes a 12.3 inch screen and a 14.9 inch infotainment display. These displays run BMW’s newest iDrive 8 that boasts cloud based navigation, incredible voice recognition, and can also act as a Wi-Fi hotspot. New for 2023 is an optional heads up display. Other driver features include, lane departure warning, forward collision waring with automated braking, and parking sensors. XM Platform
The BMW XM’s ability for blistering acceleration comes from the first ever plug in hybrid electric system, offered in a BMW M vehicle. The newly developed Hybrid drivetrain dubbed the M HYBRID system, utilizes a new 4.4-liter 483-hp V8 gasoline engine featuring the M TwinPower Turbo system. This gasoline engine is coupled to an electric motor integrated in the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission producing 194-hp. Together, the output of the XM drive system reaches 644-hp at 5,400 RPM and 590 ft-lbs of torque, inside of a wide power band between 1,600 and 5,000 RPM. This impressive power is transferred to the wheels through the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The instant torque and power is available with no lag, due to the power of the electric motor equipped transmission. Pass effortlessly and pull off from a stop, utilizing the launch control system to achieve 0-60 on only 4.1 seconds. This hybrid system also allows the driver to choose to drive in an all electric mode up to 87 mph for around 30 miles. XM Technology
Not only is the BMW XM brutally fast, its electronics are cleverly designed with driver convince in mind. AC charging at 7.4 kW can replenish the high-voltage battery to 100% in only 3.25 hours. The XM also features predictive heat management to keep the battery at the optimal temperature for performance and charging at all times. Optimized cooling features in the front of the vehicle work to keep essential components at the perfect temperature. Driving modes in the BMW XM are also designed to increase efficiency. Hybrid driving mode allows the full output of the gas engine and the electric motor. In the electric driving mode the vehicle keeps the gasoline engine off and only drives off the battery unless there is an immediate demand for significant power. In the eCONTROL mode, the system will work to maintain the batteries charge. This can be used in anticipation for electric driving at the end of a drive when entering an urban area.
